Treat Alarnath as a road excursion from Puri, with its own darshan and return journey. The shrine’s connection to Jagannath is especially important during Anavasara, when pilgrims come to Brahmagiri while the Puri deities remain away from public view.

Longing for Jagannath’s darshan during Anavasara, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is directed to Alarnath at Brahmagiri. Vishnu’s presence here brings consolation in separation from the Lord. Devotees continue to visit Alarnath during this period, carrying the Puri pilgrimage beyond the town. The connection is devotional and seasonal; Alarnath remains a shrine of worship through the year.

The people and craft behind the temple

The heritage inventory records a curving rekha sanctum tower, a stepped-roof pidha assembly hall and a dance hall. It identifies older surviving portions beneath later construction. Looking at the different roof forms gives a concrete way to read the temple without assigning the whole building to one date.
