One of Nataraja’s five dance sabhas, Chitra Sabha gives painting a central place in the encounter with the dancing Lord. It stands separately to the north of the main Kutralanathar temple.
The Chitra Sabha stands separately north of Kutralanathar. Its copper-plated roof shelters a painted interior; carved wooden doors and dancing figures at the entrance prepare the visitor for Nataraja’s dance hall. The district describes paintings made with natural dyes. Here, slow down enough to follow one painted sacred episode, then look back at the architecture that holds it. Different published accounts give different building dates, so the guide does not attach a precise year to the whole structure.
