Ekambaranathar is the Earth shrine among the Pancha Bhoota temples. Locate the Mavadi setting and notice the contrast between the south rajagopuram and the inner sacred spaces.

Sthala puranam

Uma worships Shiva as a lingam of sand beneath the mango tree. When floodwaters threaten, she embraces the lingam and holds fast to the Lord. The divine embrace belongs to the name Thazhuva Kuzhaintha Nathar. At this Prithvi, or Earth, shrine, the sand lingam and the Mavadi mango setting bring the sacred account into the visitor’s understanding of the place. The divine marriage with Elavarkuzhali and Sundarar’s recovery of sight in his left eye are further strands of the temple’s devotional history.
