Her temple on the outskirts connects with Dwarkadhish through the account of Durvasa, Krishna and water offered on their journey. After darshan, spend time with the carved figures around the exterior.
Krishna and Rukmini invite sage Durvasa for a meal. He asks the divine couple to draw his chariot to their home. During the journey Rukmini becomes thirsty, and Krishna touches the earth with his toe, bringing forth the Ganga. Rukmini drinks before offering water to the sage. Durvasa, feeling slighted, curses her to live apart from Krishna. The separate shrines preserve this episode in Dwarka’s sacred geography.
The temple’s exterior carries figures of deities, while bands of human figures and elephants ornament the platform below. These smaller carvings reward attention after the main darshan; the shrine’s modest scale gives Rukmini’s worship a different setting from the larger Jagat Mandir.
