Temple Circuit · reading guide · 8 September 2026Close to Kamakshi, this temple changes the scale of darshan: Vishnu appears as Trivikrama, measuring the worlds. Tiruneeragam, Tirukkaragam and Tirukkarvanam share the complex with Tiruooragam. They should not be turned into four separate driving stops.
Vishnu comes to Mahabali as Vamana and asks for three paces of land. When the king agrees, Vamana becomes Trivikrama, spanning earth and heaven. Mahabali’s surrender completes the encounter. The immense raised-leg form at Ulagalantha Perumal brings that cosmic stride into the sanctuary; the Tamil name honours the Lord who measured the worlds.
Pallava and later Chola inscriptions record the temple’s continuing support. Tiruooragam and the three other Divya Desam shrines make this a concentrated Vaishnava pilgrimage within one enclosure. Keep their individual names and worship distinct even though the planner treats the complex as one visit.

Tiruooragam and the subsidiary shrines
Identify Tiruneeragam, Tirukkaragam and Tirukkarvanam from signs or with staff help. Give each its own prayer; do not assume every shrine is open together.
